Day 10: The Wonder of God

John 1:14, “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. We observed His glory, the glory as the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

The early morning greeted me with the flat, gray skies of late December. As the day wore on, bruised and bloated clouds rushed in from the south. Powerful northern winds rocked the windows and shoved
in heavy layers of turmoil, plunging temperatures to below freezing. The heavens churned in a froth of chaos as the two weather masses collided. I ran outside with camera in hand, and snapped jaw-dropping shots until the skies broke open and sleet pelted the house. I hurried inside, almost afraid to leave my perch for fear I was only dreaming. But I grabbed a steaming cup of coffee and a blanket, and settled by the front window mesmerized at the drama playing out before me, and knew it was all too real.

Although we have not seen Him, God reveals Himself through creation and His son, the Lord Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh. We marvel at God’s power. He is the only one worthy of worship and praise. All glory, honor, and power are due Him.

God reveals who He is and what He does through Jesus. By clothing His son in human flesh, fully divine and fully human, God touches us personally and provides a way to receive Him through Jesus. By grace we are saved through faith. Not ours, but what God gives as a marvelous gift. We boast in the hope of the glory of God, and stand amazed at God’s profound act of grace and love. Physical eyes are inca- pable of detecting the divine, but through Jesus we have spiritual sight into the eternal nature of grace and truth. His grace comes new every morning; His truth holds eternal freedom, and we live in everlast- ing hope.

Jesus is, was, and always will be one with God, existing before time began with authority over all. He is the power of all creation, logical and brilliant in its intricacy and complexity, designed not by accident or randomness, but by divine and deliberate appointment. Creation’s majesty reflects God’s holy person- ality. Nothing was created or exists without Jesus. He gives life to all.

Jesus is God’s greatest expression of compassion, and shows us His glory. Jesus separated the light from the darkness in creation, and God saw that it was good. The same power draws us out of spiritual dark- ness as we receive His gift of new life. We don’t understand the details but we trust Him. For further encouragement, God sent John the Baptist who witnessed the coming of Jesus.

We know God because we’ve seen His creation and have met Jesus. He gives us power and purpose. Worship and kneel before the Lord God, the Almighty, our Maker and the Maker of Heaven and Earth.

Will you choose God’s kingdom today and for eternity?

God of Grace and Truth, thank You for Your son, Jesus. May I always view You with eyes of anticipation, words of praise, acts of goodness, and a heart filled with wonder and awe. Amen.
