The deadliest fire in American history killed somewhere between 1,200 and 2,400 people in a single night in 1871, and almost no one remembers its name. In this message from FBC Kaufman's "Great Begins with Good" series, Dr. Brent Gentzel and Todd Gentzel trace the forgotten story of Peshtigo, Wisconsin, and the two famous Americans who answered the disaster in very different ways. This is the Stewardship chapter of our 8-week series marking America's 250th anniversary. Through the lives of Gifford Pinchot, father of the U.S. Forest Service, and John Muir, founder of the Sierra Club, we discover the two ancient words God gave humanity in Genesis 2:15: abad (to cultivate) and shamar (to protect). Both men loved the land. Both followed the same Bible. And their famous disagreement still shapes how we think about what God has placed in our hands. What has God entrusted to you? Your world. Your family. Your church. Your neighbor. Discover what it means to keep the trust whole, and why the One who kept it perfectly has placed it back into our hands. Three points: The trust given to us all The two words that define our responsibilities The four gardens given to our care
